The Binnacle January 2003                                                       Volume XV III, No. 1 Ocean City Historical Museum,    1735 Simpson Ave.,  Ocean City, NJ     08226 From The President’s Desk . . .          How many times have our friends asked us what do you do in the winter in Ocean City? Well, if you are involved with our museum’s, you do know what we do in the winter. The Sindia Day in December was, as usual, a success with Fred Miller and John Loeper giving their different versions of the grounding. We also, as a result of Sindia Day, received proclamations from the Governor and Assemblyman Van Drew. You will hear more about this in the future.        I hope that you did not miss “The Seven Quilts For Seven Sisters” performance on January 11th at the Music Pier. If you did miss it, you had better read the write-up in the January 16th edition of the Ocean City Sentinel newspaper by Mr. Ed Wismer.          Now for this year, February 15th will be the Victorian Valentine Tea, for children, and February 20th will be a presentation by Phillip Kantor on the Whaling Industry in Cape May County and Ocean City. The topic for the winter Ocean Native’s night on March 20th will be “Horses on the beach.”  We are striving to have at least one major monthly event. Of course wait until you see our Summer Thursday evening schedule.          After many years, eleven in fact, it appears that the humidity problem in our facility is going to be corrected. Contracts are underway with soliciting bids for the installation and repairs to the system. These repairs and changes will not be made without some inconveniences to us. It is anticipated that we may have to close for several days or a period of time for the mechanical work to be completed. We are certainly hoping that the work will be completed prior to the summer season. We will do our best to keep all of our members, volunteers, and visitors aware of the progress. Keep watching channel 2 on the TV and also the local newspapers for progress reports.          Your museum is growing as never before. We need your support both physically and financially. Our major push during 2003 will be to increase our memberships. Do your part by signing up family, friends, and neighbors. HAPPY NEW YEAR!   Officers and   Trustees 2003 President Paul S.
